Snorkeling

Zanzibar has some of the most outstanding reefs in the world with a mixture of soft and hard coral, and an abundance of marine life. The waters around Zanzibar are home to over 350 species of fish including clown fish, butterfly fish and angel fish. Turtles, dolphins and squids can be found in the waters, and the occasional friendly whale shark can also be spotted. The underwater terrain around Zanzibar is like a garden with its beautiful colours and shoals of fish.

The north coast offers great snorkelling spots including Mnemba Atoll with its clear waters and abundance of marine life. Tumbatu Island, just off the north coast, is a secluded and largely untouched snorkelling spot, and a permit is required in order to snorkel here.
