Chamarel

Located in the south west of the island are the unique coloured sands of Chamarel. The undulating layers of blue, green, red and yellow sands are said to be the result of erosion of volcanic ash. It is said that the shades are quite subtle, and therefore best viewed from a little distance to best appreciate the contrast in colours. The nearby waterfalls of Chamarel are also an area of great scenic beauty and can be seen on the way to the Coloured Earths.
